In Residence at Music Academy of the West

YPC National hosted over 100 choristers at the renowned Music Academy of the West, among the nation’s preeminent institutions for gifted young musicians. Singers from Young People’s Chorus of New York City, Young People’s Chorus at Thurnauer School of Music, and Music Academy of the West’s Sing! program came together for YPC National Lab, singing together as Concinamus, YPC National’s choral ensemble.

Music educators and conductors from across the country also joined to participate in YPC National Studio, with the opportunity to experience an immersive week of conducting, singing, score study, and conversation, and practice their conducting techniques with Concinamus.

Concert at Paseo Nuevo
Downtown Santa Barbara

YPC was proud to perform an outdoor concert for the community at Paseo Nuevo in the heart of downtown Santa Barbara – delighting the audience with a diverse program of music and dance from Broadway’s West Side Story to African-American Spirituals like Take Me to the Water to the beautiful Jiangsu Folk song, Mo Li Hua. YPC shared their new West Coast Medley once again, which originally premiered in Napa just days prior, bringing smiles and applause throughout the audience. Each piece performed drew more and more of a crowd to the performance space, with every single passerby stopping to hear the performance in full!

Concert at Hahn Hall
Music Academy of the West

To culminate the week, YPC and YPC National performed a 90-minute concert at Music Academy of the West’s beautiful Hahn Hall. After YPC delivered an electrifying performance in the first half of the concert, they welcomed choristers from Young People’s Chorus at Thurnauer School of Music and Music Academy of the West’s Sing! program to offer the second half of the program, introducing Concinamus to the West Coast for the first time.
